  • Notes
    • Taken from the notes of Betty Harper: "John Whittlesey b. July 4, 1623in Cambridgeshire, England, near Whittlesea, the son of John Whittleseyborn 1593 in Cambridgeshire, and Lydia Terry whom he married in LondonOctober 1621. John Whittlesey came to America with the Lords Say andSeal Company in 1635. In 1636 news reached Boston that the Dutchsettlers were coming up the Connecticut. Lords Say and Seal calledtogether their company and hastened to the mouth of the river just intime to prevent the Dutch from entering the river in their boats. Therecords of Saybrook from this time to 1670 were destroyed when the NewLondon Hall of Records burned, but we find the Whittleseys mentionedamong the inhabitants of Middlesex County in 1648."
